“A Ray of Hope” launches in Bristol

Setting up the display and “Pancakes for the Planet”

As we reported earlier this year St Mary Redcliffe (SMR) in Bristol have kindly made JRI their Lent Appeal Charity for 2020. A whole lot of activity is now underway. A whole section of the latest SMR Parish Magazine is devoted to the project which they have called “A Ray of Hope” (See SMR 2020, page 9 onwards, and including an article from JRI Directors, Martin and Margot Hodson). It is exciting to see how much activity is happening in SMR over Lent.

On Shrove Tuesday (25th Feb. 2020) a team from JRI were present at the launch of “A Ray of Hope”. Our first job was to set up our new display boards in the church. These will remain in the church for most of Lent. We then took part in “Pancakes for the Planet”. First, the vicar, Dan Tyndall, opened the art exhibition which has an environmental theme. Then everyone had pancakes. By everyone, we mostly mean children! Martin and Margot Hodson then did an all age presentation introducing JRI, pancakes, the wonderful world God made, our environmental problems, and ending with a short biblical response. Everyone was then invited to make environmental pledges for Lent. It was a good start to “A Ray of Hope”.

There are now a whole variety of events in the church this Lent. The big ones are:

On Sunday 15th March 2020 between 2-4 pm the church is holding a “Ray of Hope” Cream Tea. All are welcome POSTER

This is all leading up to the Eco Fair in the church on Saturday 28th March 2020 from 12noon to 4.00 pm. The day will include: a bicycle repair shop; clothes swap; mending café; children’s activities; stalls from various organisations; refreshments; raffle; and more! At 2.00 pm JRI will begin their presentation. We have invited two of our associates, Ian Brooks and David Gould, to speak. All are welcome- do come! POSTER

Finally, SMR has just launched a JustGiving page for the appeal. If you would like to support us we would be very grateful!
